From Indie Books to Indie Rock

With it finally being the weekend, I took Lynn to check out Marylebone High Street for ourselves. In particular, I wanted to take her, with her love for travel as well, to Daunt - a popular Edwardian-era independent book shop known for its travel section.

But before doing any of that, food always comes first. So, for brunch, we ended up trying The Natural Kitchen a few doors further along. With the ground floor catering for a wide variety of organic produce, the cafe was located on the first floor and was a cosy affair with about 14 covers at most in a bright naturally lit room.

And despite its organic stripes amd the requisite price premium on top, the breakfast was both delicious  and filling yet reasonable at £10 per person. The best part was the DIY toast where there was a wide selection of breads to choose and toast from as well as a decadent choice of Wilkin & Sons jellies, marmalades and preserves to go on top. Marmite too if you’re so inclined!

Then onto Daunt with it’s old charm and really rather cool collection of travel books. It’s similar to Stanfords but just has a more intimate old-world feel. You could easily lose hours browing in there. So I spent some time chilling out researching Raratonga and the Cook Islands – one of the options on my RTW trip idea -whilst Lynn amused herself with the adorable baby book section.

Afterwards, took Lynn around to Gap, H&M, John Lewis, Benetton, and Mamas & Papas helping her shop for both trendy maternity and baby clothes. It was hilarious chatting away the shop assistants who, naturally thinking that I was the happy expectant father, were asking me if I wanted a boy or a girl! Good practice for the future though! ^^

As evening fell, it was time for some indie rock courtesy of Snow Patrol and their “Taking Back The Cities” tour at the O2.

Bela, look fab in her indie rock chick outfit, was kind enough to accompany me and we had a great time rocking out to their classics (“Chocolate”, “Headlights On Dark Roads”, “Open Your Eyes”, and “Crack the Shutters”), mellowing out to “You Could Be Happy”, watching the crowd go manic as they sang “Run”, “Take Back The City”, and “Shut Your Eyes” all the way to the fitting finale anthem: You’ll All I  Have.

It was brilliant listening live and I would’ve love for them to sing  ”Signal Fire” too. But the time just seem to fly right past and before we knew it, the concert was over and it was time to head home on a high.
